Not that it will change your life, but it is certainly important in the digital universe that you establish a presence.
It is becoming increasingly common to visit professional profiles on websites that have tools for displaying portfolios, such as Linked In, or even on personal websites like this one.
Developing your digital presence is not easy, as it requires an investment of time and in some cases money, for example to build a website. I built my first website in 2004 and hired a web designer to develop the graphics and programming.
At the time, Word Press was not yet popular and did not have many features. After a few years, I ended up creating other blogs on my own, to gain knowledge about the tool and also write articles on topics such as marketing, quality of life at work, technology, etc.
You can build a blog on WordPress by yourself, but it takes time and patience to deal with programming issues, bugs, etc. For better quality, I recommend hiring a professional to help you with this part.
Today, the possibilities for dissemination are much greater and easier with social networks, so it is more practical to share knowledge and content with communities of interest. This blog has already received more than 2,200 visits and a total of 10,000 page views, which proves the interest that people have in consuming original content and points of view on certain topics.
Creating and sharing content can demonstrate knowledge, or so-called “Though Leadership”, and thus generate interest among professionals in learning more about your background and profile. As a brand, each of us has attributes that are connected to our experience, background, and so on.
As a company, we must maintain relationships with our stakeholders and build our professional image. Having your own blog can be an interesting way to share your knowledge or passions with an interested audience.
There is another side that means generating business, employment or professional growth opportunities in your company.
Although many recruitment and selection professionals still request the traditional CV, there are several articles that mention companies that already look at digital presence as a way of obtaining the profile of potential recruits.
There can be many benefits to having your profile among the 1% most visited on LinkedIn, that is, as a renowned book says, “Dig a well before you are thirsty.”
Here are some tips for building, sharing and managing content:
Save examples of work, photos, videos and materials that you find interesting and would like to write about;
Choose topics that you identify with and enjoy researching, writing and generating content about;
The beginning is difficult, be patient and don't be intimidated by low traffic at the beginning or on some posts. Not all of them are successful;
Focus on the structure of the information and what kind of layout you want to create, based on the content you are going to publish. Hire a webmaster (they are very affordable these days) if you want to create something with a more professional look;
Writing takes time, a post like this one for example needs 1-2 hours to be ready;
Write down ideas you see in information sources to put together your articles;
To promote them, use social media and a clear SEO strategy, with well-defined keywords. Do not simply replicate content from other websites. If you do, mention the source and give credit to the author;
Publish regularly, as search engines have “bots” that visit your site and this impacts your SEO performance.
These are just a few tips to help you start your online presence.
This site gets about 50% of its traffic from LinkedIn and the rest from other sources. This can vary depending on the type of content you choose.
Remember, it's always important to enjoy creating and managing a project like this.
